How Black PVD Finishing Holds Up

Our black body jewelry uses PVD (physical vapor deposition), a coating bonded to titanium or surgical steel rather than painted on. It's more resistant to chipping than paint or basic plating, though any coating can wear with time, especially on pieces that rub against teeth or get handled often. Clean it gently with mild soap and water.

Black Nose Rings and Septum Rings

Black is especially popular for face piercings. Choose black open nose hoops in 18G and 20G, a black captive bead nose ring, black L-bend nose studs with CZ gems, black titanium hinged hoops, and black septum clickers with CZ gems or pink opals. The 14G black septum ring and mustache design make a bolder statement.

Is black body jewelry titanium or surgical steel?

Both. The black finish is a PVD coating, and it's applied over titanium on some pieces, like the 14G black titanium hinged segment ring, and over surgical steel on others. The listing title tells you the base metal, so check it if you prefer one over the other.

Is black jewelry okay if my skin is sensitive?

If your piercings react to steel, choose black pieces made from titanium, which is nickel-free under the coating. On coated surgical steel, the coating doesn't change the metal underneath, and it can wear over time. Your piercer can help if you're not sure what your skin tolerates.

Do you have black plugs and tunnels?

Yes. Choose black screw-fit tunnels from 10G to 1", black double flared eyelets from 6G to 1", or 16G black fake plugs that give the look of a stretched lobe in a regular piercing. See all sizes in ear gauges.
