How a Nipple Shield Is Worn
A piercing nipple shield is a decorative ring or frame with a hole on each side. The barbell passes through one side of the shield, through your piercing, and out the other side, so the frame sits around the nipple. It's a way to add a bold design without a bigger piercing. Shields are best for a fully healed piercing, since the frame adds weight and pressure.
Shield Designs
Our nipple shields cover a wide range of styles: hearts with and without CZ gems, 6-point spiked stars sold as a pair, dream catchers with clear, pink, or aqua stones, half circles of CZ gems, a playful bunny, vampire fangs, and skeleton hands. They're 316L surgical steel, with silver, gold, black, and rainbow options on some designs.
Nipple Shield Jewelry Sizing
Our shields use 14G barbells, the standard nipple piercing size. Check the shield's diameter in each listing; larger shields, like the 7/8" (22mm) spiked star, make a bigger statement. Not sure of your size? See our body jewelry gauge size chart, or ask your piercer to confirm your gauge and fit. For simple bars, see nipple bars.
Nipple Shield Jewelry FAQ
What are these nipple shields made of?
All of our nipple shields are 316L surgical steel, with gold, black, and rainbow finishes on some designs. If your piercing reacts to steel, pair a shield with a titanium barbell from our nipple bars, as long as it fits through the shield's holes.
How do I put on a nipple shield?
Unscrew one end of the barbell. Thread the bar through one hole of the shield, through your piercing, and out through the hole on the other side, then screw the end back on. The shield should sit around the nipple without pinching.
Can I use my own barbell with a nipple shield?
Yes, if it's the same 14G gauge and long enough to pass through both sides of the shield plus your piercing. The ends also need to be larger than the shield's holes so it stays on. If in doubt, check with your piercer.
