Why Choose a Hinged Ring

A hinged ring has a segment that swings open on a tiny hinge and snaps back into place. That makes it much easier to put in than a captive bead ring, which needs pliers, and there's no bead to drop down the sink. The closure sits flush, so the ring looks seamless when worn. Hinged rings are also called clickers or hinged segment rings.

Hinged Rings FAQ

How do I open and close a hinged ring?

Hold the ring on both sides of the hinged segment and gently swing the segment open. Guide the open end through your piercing, then press the segment back until it clicks. Don't twist or pull the segment sideways, which can loosen the hinge.

Why won't my hinged ring click shut?

The segment has to line up exactly with the notch. Press it straight closed rather than at an angle, and make sure no skin or hair is in the way. If it closes but pops open easily, the hinge may be worn and it's time for a new ring.

Can I bend a hinged ring to make it tighter?

No. Bending a hinged ring can stop the segment from closing properly. If a hoop feels loose, choose a smaller diameter instead: 1/4" (6mm) sits closest, 5/16" (8mm) is the everyday size, and 3/8" (10mm) hangs lower. See our body jewelry gauge size chart to compare.
