Rook Earrings and Curved Barbells

Curved Barbells Fit the Rook

The rook runs vertically through a fold of cartilage, so a curved barbell follows its shape and sits comfortably without pressure. Choose internally threaded titanium curved barbells with CZ gem balls, titanium spike ends in silver, gold, rose gold, and black, or surgical steel barbells with ball or spike ends. The ends screw off, so you can swap tops without changing the bar.

Rook Rings for a Healed Piercing

Once your rook has healed, a small ring adds a different look. Choose a 16G hinged ring with a fixed ball, an 18G hinged hoop paved with CZ stones, or a 16G titanium ring with a 3mm gem ball. Captive bead rings in 18G and 20G are a lighter option. Rings move more than barbells, so they're better after healing than during it.

Rook Piercing Jewelry Sizes

Most rook piercings are done at 16G. For curved barbells, 5/16" (8mm) is the most common length, with 3/8" (10mm) for thicker cartilage or a bit of extra room. Not sure of your size? How do I change a rook barbell?

Unscrew one end and slide the bar out following its curve. Insert the new bar from the same side, guiding it along the curve, and screw the end back on. Going slowly helps, since the rook sits in thick cartilage.

Is titanium or surgical steel better for a rook?

Titanium is nickel-free and lighter, which helps if your cartilage reacts to other metals. Surgical steel is durable and costs less. Both come with gem, ball, and spike ends here.
