How an Industrial Bar Works
An industrial piercing is two holes in the upper ear, usually one in the forward helix area and one in the outer rim, joined by a single straight barbell. Because one bar runs through both holes, the two piercings need to line up. Industrials are known for a long healing time, so a well-fitted bar that doesn't press on the ear matters.
Designer Industrial Barbells
Many of our industrial barbells have a design built into the bar, so it looks like a single piece of jewelry. Choose an arrow in black, gold, or silver, a cross with 5mm ball ends, a tree of life, or a gold-tone steampunk design. For a clean look, the PVD-coated barbell with 5mm ball ends comes in silver, gold, rose gold, black, and rainbow.
14G Industrial Piercing Jewelry Sizing
Industrial piercings are usually done at 14G, and all our industrial barbells are 14G. Length depends on the distance between your two holes; measure from the outside of one piercing to the outside of the other. Not sure of your size? See our body jewelry gauge size chart, or ask your piercer to confirm your gauge and fit.
Industrial Piercing Jewelry FAQ
Can I wear two separate earrings instead of an industrial bar?
Yes, once both holes are fully healed, many people wear a stud or hoop in each hole instead. Just match the gauge: our industrial bars are 14G, and most cartilage labrets are 16G, which is thinner and can let the hole shrink. Ask your piercer before switching.
How do I know my industrial bar fits?
A good fit leaves a little room at each end, so the balls don't press into your ear, and the bar sits straight without pulling the cartilage out of shape. If the ends dig in, the bar is too short. Measure between the two holes, or have your piercer check it.
What are your industrial barbells made of?
All of our industrial barbells are 14G surgical steel. Several have a PVD coating for color, including the arrow in black, gold, or silver and the 5mm ball barbell in silver, gold, rose gold, black, and rainbow. If your ear reacts to steel, ask your piercer about a titanium alternative.
