Flat-Back Studs Made for the Forward Helix
The forward helix sits in a tight spot, so small, flat-back labret studs are the go-to. The flat disk rests against the inside of the fold without poking, and a short post keeps the top close to your skin. Many people wear two or three forward helix piercings stacked in a row, and matching studs make that look clean. Choose internally threaded titanium labrets or push-pin threadless labrets that let you swap tops easily.
Forward Helix Jewelry in Titanium, Steel, and Color
Titanium labret studs are nickel-free and lightweight, which helps cartilage that reacts to other metals. We carry titanium studs with a single CZ gem, 2mm and 3mm stones, and multicolor PVD finishes. Surgical steel options include a white opal, a jeweled ball, clear CZ in silver, gold, and rose gold, and black studs with a 3mm ball or spike. Once healed, an 18G or 20G captive bead ring in a 1/4" (6mm) size makes a tiny forward helix hoop.
Forward Helix Stud Sizes
Forward helix piercings are usually done at 16G, and most of our forward helix studs are 16G, with a few 18G options. Because the area is small, a 1/4" (6mm) post is common once healed, while 5/16" (8mm) leaves room for swelling in a newer piercing. Not sure of your size? See our body jewelry gauge size chart, or ask your piercer to confirm your gauge and fit. See more upper-ear styles in helix piercing jewelry.
Forward Helix Jewelry FAQ
What's the difference between a forward helix and a helix piercing?
A forward helix sits at the front of the upper rim, where the ear meets your face. A helix sits on the outer rim further back. The forward helix is a tighter, smaller spot, so short flat-back studs fit it best. See more upper-ear jewelry in helix piercing jewelry.
Should I choose a push-pin or threaded forward helix stud?
Push-pin (threadless) studs hold the top in by tension, so you can swap tops quickly without twisting. Internally threaded studs screw together and suit people who like a top that stays put. Both have a smooth post; choose the style you'll find easier to change in a tight spot.
How do I change a forward helix stud?
Hold the flat disk behind the piercing steady with one finger. For a threaded stud, unscrew the top counterclockwise; for a push-pin, pull the top straight out. Put the new top in the same way. Because the spot is small, a mirror helps, and your piercer can help with the first change.
