Hypoallergenic Nose Rings Without the Nickel

If your nostril gets red or itchy with cheaper jewelry, nickel is a common cause. Titanium contains no nickel, which is why it's the metal most people choose when they want a hypoallergenic nose ring. It's also light, which matters for a piece you wear day and night, and it won't tarnish or turn your skin green. Surgical steel is durable too, but it contains a small amount of nickel bound into the alloy. If steel has bothered you before, titanium is the safer switch. For a new piercing or ongoing irritation, check with your piercer before changing jewelry.

Titanium Nose Studs That Stay In, Hoops That Click Shut

The titanium nose studs come in two post shapes. Corkscrew studs twist into the nostril and hold firmly, a good choice if you've ever lost a stud overnight. L-bend studs slide in and out more easily, so they suit anyone who changes jewelry often. Tops range from a plain ball, dome, or spike to 2mm CZ gems and 2.5mm opals. For hoops, the seamless hinged rings click shut with no loose parts, the open hoops adjust by hand, and the 16G ring with a 3mm gem ball adds a little sparkle at the front of the nostril.

Titanium Nose Ring Sizes: 14G to 20G

Most nostrils are pierced at 18G or 20G, and most of these titanium nose rings come in one or both. The hinged segment rings go thicker, up to 14G, for nostrils pierced at a larger gauge. Hoops are sized by inner diameter: 5/16" (8mm) sits close to the nostril and 3/8" (10mm) hangs a little lower. Stay with the gauge you already wear, since a thinner ring can slip and let the hole shrink, and a thicker one can be hard to insert. Not sure of your size? Titanium Nose Rings FAQ

Are the gold, rose gold, and black titanium nose rings still titanium?

Yes. Every piece on this page is titanium underneath; the gold, rose gold, black, and rainbow colors come from a PVD coating on the surface. The metal is still nickel-free titanium, but a coating can wear over time, especially on hoops that rub against the nostril. If you'd rather skip the coating, choose silver.

How do I clean a titanium nose ring?

Rinse it with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap, then pat it dry with a clean tissue. Titanium doesn't tarnish, so it never needs polishing or jewelry cleaner. Skip alcohol and harsh chemicals, which can dull CZ gems, opals, and colored coatings. If your piercing is still healing, follow your piercer's aftercare instead.

Can I wear a titanium nose hoop in my septum?

Sometimes, if the gauge and diameter fit. Most septums are pierced at 16G, which is thicker than the 18G and 20G hoops most people wear in a nostril, and a thinner ring can let the piercing shrink.
