Plugs, Tunnels, and Ear Stretchers

Ear Gauges: Screw-Fit Tunnels and Flared Eyelets

A tunnel is a hollow tube that shows the open center of a stretched lobe. Screw-fit tunnels have a back that threads on, so they go in without having to push a flare through. Double flared eyelets are flared on both sides and must be pushed through, so they suit fully healed, well-stretched lobes. We carry 10G screw-fit tunnels in surgical steel and black PVD, plus 10G and 6G double flared eyelets.

Acrylic Ear Tapers From 12G to 1/2"

Tapers are the tool for stretching: each one is thin at one end and wider at the other. You slide the thin end through your lobe until the widest part sits in the piercing, and rubber o-rings hold it in place. Our black acrylic tapers are lightweight and come in sizes from 12G up to 1/2". Go up one size at a time and wait between sizes; rushing can tear the lobe. Once you reach your size, switch to a plug or tunnel.

Fake Plugs for Regular Piercings

Fake plugs, sometimes called fake gauges or cheater plugs, look like a stretched plug from the front but sit on a 16G post in a normal lobe piercing. Choose black PVD steel, a nail-head design, or domes in silver, gold, rose gold, blue, purple, and rainbow. Not sure of your size? See our body jewelry gauge size chart, or ask your piercer to confirm your gauge and fit.

Ear Gauges FAQ

What's the difference between plugs and tunnels?

A plug is solid, so it fills the stretched hole. A tunnel is hollow, so you can see through the center. We carry screw-fit tunnels, double flared eyelets (a type of tunnel), and fake plugs, which look like a plug but sit in a regular 16G piercing.

What are ear gauge sizes in millimeters?

Gauge numbers go down as size goes up: 12G is about 2mm, 10G about 2.5mm, 8G about 3mm, 6G 4mm, 4G 5mm, 2G 6mm, 0G 8mm, 00G 10mm, and 1/2" 12.7mm. Our tapers run from 12G to 1/2", our screw-fit tunnels and silver eyelets from 10G to 1" (25mm), and our black eyelets from 6G to 1". See the full body jewelry gauge size chart.

How long should I wait between stretches?

Go up one size at a time and give your lobe plenty of time to settle before the next; many people wait at least a month, and longer at bigger sizes. If a taper won't go in easily, stop and wait longer instead of forcing it. Your piercer can advise on your stretching pace.
